Ultrasound technology has long been used for aesthetic procedures for fat reduction and skin tightening. Rhinoplasty can now be performed with the assistance of ultrasonic waves, making nasal bone reshaping more precise and accurate. The tools used during an ultrasonic rhinoplasty are powered by ultrasonic waves that vibrate the tip of the tool, shaving excess bone that creates humps. In more traditional rhinoplasty techniques, the bones are aggressively scraped and chiseled away. With ultrasound technology, even the thinnest and most brittle bones can be adjusted for a better cosmetic outcome. 

During an ultrasonic rhinoplasty, an open rhinoplasty technique will be used for better exposure and visualization during surgery. An incision will be made at the columella directly beneath the nasal tip. The nose will then be retracted backwards, dissecting the nose cartilage with care being taken to not incise the medial crura, the cartilage that separates the nostrils. The flap will be raised off of the nose for maximum exposure and work can now be done to reshape the nasal tip, bridge, nostrils, or septum repair with the specialized ultrasonic tools. Different tool tips can be used to scrape, shape, and smoothen the nasal bone. The ultrasonic tool allows for more precision and less surrounding tissue trauma. Once completed, the flap will be redraped over the bone framework and external contouring and shaping is completed. The incision will be closed with sutures and an external splint or cast will be placed over the nose.

Ultrasound assisted liposuction can help patients with stubborn fatty deposits on the stomach, hips, thighs, and back. This procedure, better known as its brand name Vaserlipo, combines ultrasound energy with tumescent liposuction for better body contouring results. The Vaserlipo probe delivers ultrasound energy to the treatment area to emulsify the fat. By disrupting the fat cells before the actual liposuction procedure, more adipose tissue is able to be removed. 

Before treatment begins, the skin will be cleansed and marked to determine target areas during the procedure. The patient will lay comfortably on an operating table and the incision area will be numbed with a local anesthetic. Once the incision is made, the area will be infiltrated with a tumescent solution which is comprised of lidocaine for numbing, ephedrine to limit bleeding, and saline to dilute the solution and expand the tissue for easier access. A skin port will likely be applied over the incision to protect the skin from burns caused by the Vaserlipo probe. The probe will be inserted into the skin and moved in a back and forth motion to break up and essentially liquefy fatty deposits. Once complete, the probe will be removed and a cannula inserted to suction away all of the emulsified fat. Stitches are not typically necessary to close incisions, however, a compression garment will be applied to help drainage and prevent swelling.

The upper eyelid blepharoplasty is a procedure that surgically removes excessive and droopy eyelid skin. This can be a result of loss of collagen and elastin during the natural aging process that can cause the eyebrows to fall, eyelid skin to lose tautness, and overall facial skin begin to droop. The excess skin can cause vision-related issues as well, making this both a procedure that corrects both form and function of the eyelids.
