About William S. Gillen, MD

Dr. Gillen is a board-certified dermatologist who specializes in complete skin cancer removal and reconstructive surgery. He graduated magna cum laude from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, Virginia, and received a Bachelor of Science in biology with a second major in French. He earned his medical degree from the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine, Medical College of Virginia, in Richmond, Virginia, where he also completed an internship in internal medicine and a residency in dermatology, serving as chief resident during his final year. Dr. Gillen went on to complete a fellowship in Mohs micrographic surgery and procedural dermatology at the Skin Cancer Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. Prior to joining Bon Secours, Dr. Gillen worked in the Richmond area as a Mohs surgeon and dermatologist at the Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center, as well as a clinical assistant professor of the Department of Dermatology at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. He is experienced in managing high risk patients, such as solid organ transplant recipients, as well as complex skin cancer patients in collaboration with a multidisciplinary tumor board. Dr. Gillen has contributed to several publications and is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, and the American College of Mohs Surgery.
