About Stephen G. Nychay, MD

Dr. Nychay is Westwood Dermatology's skin cancer, cosmetic and laser surgery specialist. Having joined the practice in 1996, he has had many years of experience in all aspects of surgical skin care. Dr. Nychay's main focus is Mohs micrographic surgery for the treatment of skin cancers. He trained at the world renowned Mohs Clinic at the University of Wisconsin Health Sciences Center in Madison, Wisconsin, with Dr. Frederick Mohs himself, along with Drs. Paul Larson and Stephen Snow. Mohs surgery has been shown to be the gold standard for treating skin cancers. It is a tissue sparing technique for primary and recurrent skin tumors, combining the best cure rates with the lowest recurrence rates. Dr. Nychay is skilled at all forms of wound reconstruction after Mohs surgery, utilizing flaps and grafts if necessary to achieve highly functional and optimal cosmetic results. His other main interests include skin rejuvenation utilizing injectable fillers along with various lasers. He offers Botulinum Toxin A, Restylane®, Radiesse® and Sculptra® injections along with Diode KTP, Palomar Vectus Laser, and C02 Fractionated Laser. Dr. Nychay is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American College of Mohs Surgery, the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, the American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery and the American Society of Dermatopathology. He is an attending at Hackensack University Medical Center in Hackensack, NJ and a member of their Skin Cancer and Soft Tissue Tumor Board. Dr. Nychay has published extensively and has presented at various academic and professional meetings. He is also an active member of the Bergen County Medical Society. Dr. Nychay graduated from New York University, where he received his BA degree in Biology. He then obtained his medical degree from the Tulane University School of Medicine. After finishing an internship in Internal Medicine at the University of Southern California - Los Angeles Medical Center, Dr. Nychay completed a dermatology residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Newark, NJ, where he was chief resident. He continued his training there with a fellowship in dermatopathology. He went on to complete a two year fellowship in Mohs micrographic surgery at the University of Wisconsin Health Sciences Center in Madison, Wisconsin. Dr. Nychay is board certified in both Dermatology (1992) and Dermatopathology (1993). He is one of a very few Mohs surgeons who have special recognition in dermatologic surgery and board certification in Dermatopathology.
