About Stephen U. Harris

Dr. Stephen U. Harris, a board certified plastic surgeon, has extensive experience with today’s most advanced surgical techniques. He is known for his excellence in many areas of reconstructive and cosmetic surgery including facial aesthetic surgery, body contouring and both cosmetic and reconstructive breast surgery. Dr. Harris is Chief of Plastic Surgery at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip, NY and is an active staff surgeon (and former Chief of Plastic Surgery) at NSLIJ – Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, NY, and a consultant in breast reconstruction at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital in Patchogue, NY. His impressive medical training includes his M.D. degree from Boston University’s six year B.A./M.D. program, from which he graduated magna cum laude, his general surgical training at the New York Hospital – Cornell University Medical Center, and his plastic surgical training at Emory University, which was followed by a fellowship in hand and microsurgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital – Harvard Medical School. Dr. Harris is highly skilled in breast reconstruction surgery. While at Emory University, Dr. Harris worked closely with Dr. John Bostwick, a pioneer in reconstructive breast surgery. He has extensive experience in staged tissue expander to implant breast reconstruction, direct-to-implant techniques and the use of acellular dermal matrices in enhancing the results of implant based reconstructive breast surgery. He also has extensive experience in autologous flap techniques for breast reconstruction, including the TRAM flap, free TRAM flap, DIEP flap, SIEA flap, and latissimus flap. He pioneered microsurgical breast reconstruction, oncoplastic surgical techniques, and the use of fat grafting in reconstructive breast surgery at Good Samaritan Hospital and is on the leadership team for the Breast Reconstruction task force at Good Samaritan Hospital. He is active on the Medical Advisory Board of the West Islip Breast Cancer Coalition.
