About Sonia S. Barbosa-Ruiz, DMD
Dr. Barbosa-Ruiz was born and raised in Bogota Colombia area. She attended Colombia Dental School in Bogota Colombia where she earned her DDS. She moved to the United States and in 1991 received her Preceptorship in Periodontics at the University of Texas in Houston. This program enhances the preceptor’s knowledge necessary for evaluation and treatment of patients with periodontal diseases and implant needs. She was a clinical instructor for both the University of Texas Dental Branch and the University of Pennsylvania School of Dentistry. She continued her education at the University of Pennsylvania Dental School in Philadelphia earning her DMD in 1994. She has remained in the Philadelphia area establishing her private practice in Drexel Hill in 1998. She is fluent in both English and Spanish. Dr. Barbosa-Ruiz feels great personal satisfaction in being able to help her patients achieve optimal dental health and a beautiful smile. She takes very seriously the trust her patients place in her abilities. And her goal is that every patient has a positive, comfortable dental experience. Dr. Barbosa-Ruiz is very happily married to Dr. Cesar Ruiz. They have two beautiful children, a daughter, Olga, 30 and a son, Carlos, 23. She enjoys reading, traveling, and trying new cuisine. Exercise and healthy eating are a part of her daily routine.
