About Shanail Allen, DDS

Dr. Shanail Allen has been in the dental profession for over twenty years. A native of Detroit Michigan she always knew she wanted to become a dentist. Dr. Allen attended the University of Detroit Mercy where she earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Biology and a certificate in dental hygiene. After working as a dental assistant then a registered dental hygienist for a few years, Dr. Allen decided to further her education and attended Howard University’s College of Dentistry where she received her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. Dr. Allen strongly believes in community service. She ran two school based programs in underserved areas of Detroit. She has provided dental hygiene services in nursing homes and has served as a volunteer with several dental screening programs. Other past community service endeavors include Give Kids a Smile, the Bright Smiles Bright Futures Program, Missions of Mercy, and Old Towne Dental Clinic. Dr. Allen has also provided oral health presentations to area day cares and preschool programs. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and Jack and Jill of America Inc. Dr. Allen also participates in community service projects with these organizations. Dr. Allen is an adjunct faculty member of Thomas Nelson’s Dental Hygiene Program. She’s a member of the American Dental Association, Virginia Dental Association, Peninsula Dental Society, Old Dominion Dental Society, Norman Lassiter Dental Society and American Academy of General Dentistry. Dr. Allen is married to Dr. Brandon Allen, a pediatric dentist in Richmond. They have two daughters, Brielle and Brynn. In her spare time Dr. Allen enjoys reading, cooking, traveling, hot yoga and spending time with family and friends.
