About Ryan M. Smith, MD

Dr. Ryan M. Smith is a facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon with extensive training in both cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the face, head, and neck. He is the director of South Loop Otolaryngology and an assistant professor of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Rush University Medical Center. He is closely involved in the teaching of medical students as well as training of surgical residents and fellows in the latest techniques of facial plastic surgery. Dr. Smith has made significant contributions to the field of facial plastic surgery and has lectured extensively and authored numerous scientific papers and book chapters in the field. In the section of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Rush, Dr. Smith is very active in clinical research, investigating novel treatments and surgical innovations to provide the safest and highest-quality care available. Focusing exclusively on the treatment of the face, head and neck, Dr. Smith has dedicated his training and practice to this area specifically. He has traveled internationally to provide humanitarian surgical aid to patients in Nicaragua, Ecuador, and Vietnam. He proudly participates in Rush’s Wounded Warrior program to care for soldiers injured in combat as well as Rush medical center’s diversity programs for all communities including lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer/questioning individuals. Dr. Smith grew up in the Chicagoland area and has strong ties to Rush Medical Center, having spent nearly a decade in medical and surgical training at the institution. He is the founding member of the Humanities in Otolaryngology Program at Rush which honors the importance of the arts as it relates to the practice of medicine and surgery. Dr. Smith lives with his growing family in Old Town and in his spare time he is an avid reader and a student of the guitar.
