About Robert F. Dixon, DDS

I followed my Dad into dentistry – he practiced in Charlotte for 40 years before me. He was pretty happy that one of his six kids wanted to be a dentist. I had some big shoes to fill, but he taught me all he knew before he retired. He is almost 90 and still comes into the office every Monday to give out hugs, tend to his roses and let me take him to lunch. I love practicing in my hometown and taking care of so many incredible patients and their families. It is extremely cool seeing patients of my dad’s whose kids and grandkids now come to see us. A friend set my wife Brenda and I up when we were undergrads (she at UNC, I at NCSU). We married soon after graduation in 1989. Little did she know then that she would be working the next several years to put me through dental school! She loved being back in Chapel Hill and had a great job so it all worked out. We had our first child 10 days before I graduated from dental school…and two more soon after that. They keep us busy with lots of different sports and activities. Our family loves hanging out in this city, its greenways, people, restaurants and events. Life is full. Being a dentist is not just what I do, it’s who I am, what I was made for. The science and art of dentistry is cool and always changing. Lots of satisfaction helping people live healthy lives. I love knowing people and taking care of them, many who were patients of my dad’s. My staff is pretty remarkable too. We are a very upbeat, happy office. Dental school, of course, prepared me for a great start as a dentist. However a pediatric internship in Asheville after graduation, combined with everything I could absorb from my father’s vast knowledge, allowed me to quickly become the dentist I wanted to be. Dentistry keeps changing with new techniques and technology, so I keep growing day after day, making sure we are providing the highest level of care possible. Our patients are real people. They have babies and baptisms, illness and death, graduations and weddings, promotions and layoffs, marriages and divorces, vacations and moves, joys and sorrows. This is never lost on us as we care for them, not just their teeth. We may never know what people are really going through, so we make sure that we are a bright spot in their day no matter what. Most people don’t really want to think about their teeth too much, they just want a nice smile. When there is a problem or pain, they really want to feel good about their dentist – his abilities and his decision making. I think that is what makes our practice special. Our patients can count on us when it really matters. Our patients are confident that they are receiving good, straight forward advice and quality work. No hassles. No pressure. Solid options. Its pretty simple.
