About Robert G. Bonillas, MD

Robert G. Bonillas MD was inspired to become a doctor as a child. He was raised in a family of mechanics, and discovered natural analogies between his father’s career choice and his own. Just as his father would diagnose and correct an issue with a car, Dr. Bonillas could do the same in medicine. He translated the values instilled by his family into a passion for helping people improve their lives. His studies focused on science and medicine, Dr. Bonillas graduated magna cum laude from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutritional Sciences. He later received his medical degree from the University of Arizona College of Medicine. Dr. Bonillas trained in general surgery at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York City and was then invited by New York University Medical Center and Stanford University Medical Center, respectively, to participate in post-doctoral research fellowships in tissue engineering. His research has been published widely and presented at numerous hospitals and society meetings. Following his fellowships, Dr. Bonillas finished his specialty training in plastic surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. In addition, Dr. Bonillas fulfilled several visiting residencies and interim training at hospitals across the country, to further enhance his surgical skills. Dr. Bonillas is a member of several professional organizations, including, but not limited to, The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, The American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Arizona Society of Plastic Surgeons, and the Arizona Latin-American Medical Society. Robert G. Bonillas, MD, chose plastic surgery as his specialty because of the field’s unlimited potential to help patients. Aesthetic and reconstructive plastic procedures enable a doctor to treat any area of the body and engage the creative senses to enhance a patient’s existing beauty. Fluent in both English and Spanish, Dr. Bonillas develops a rapport with his patients by conversing openly with them to understand their limits, situations and expectations, and by making recommendations based on their personal desires. Balancing expertise with empathy, Dr. Bonillas is dedicated to ensuring his patients feel comfortable and secure in his care. Dr. Bonillas is a natural teacher, and his patients benefit from his passion to educate.
