About Richard C. Mullens, DDS
My life's ambition has been to become a dentist. My parents captured a picture of me when I was ten years old performing a dental exam on my sister in the back seat of our car! I began my private practice in the San Marco area of Jacksonville in 1991, aspiring to be the town dentist. Having trained extensively to be able to provide a high level of care for my patients, it gives me great pride and satisfaction to know that we make such a difference in our patient's lives. My team and I have worked hard to develop the trust and following of a very loyal family of patients, and as a result our work days feel more like time spent with family and friends. I am proud to serve San Marco and surrounding areas, and I am honored to have earned the reputation of the town dentist. In 1985, I received my undergraduate degree from Florida State University, and in 1989 I received my dental degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I completed an Advanced Education in General Residency from the University of Florida at Jacksonville in 1990. While my college education shaped my beginnings as a dentist, I have completed over 1,200 hours in continuing education from post-graduate institutions across the United States. This continual commitment to training allows me to incorporate the latest advances in dental education and technology into state-of-the-art dental care. Further, I offer a broader range of services to our patients with fewer referrals to other doctors. Dentistry is a detailed and technical profession, and providing individualized care for each patient continually presents new daily challenges. My greatest pleasure comes from the quality time we are able to spend with each patient. I am proud that my team knows how to make our guests comfortable and happy, and that we work together to make our patients our top priority. I have lived in the San Marco community with my wife, Sherrill, for twenty seven years. We have a daughter, Jordan, a son, Tucker, and a spoiled dog named Marco. My father-in-law also lives with us and helps run our household. In our free time, we spend a lot of time outdoors fishing, surfing, hiking, and dirt-biking. My wife and I have become ingrained in the community by building important relationships with the people and organizations of Jacksonville and San Marco. We are members of South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church, I am a member of the Rotary Club of South Jacksonville, and I volunteer for Project Dentist's Care, an organization which provides free dental care to the underserved. I am most proud to be a financial committee lead for the 2016 Florida Dental Association Mission of Mercy event here in Jacksonville, in which we expect to provide free dental care for 2,000 to 3,000 patients in April 2016.
