About Oren Tessler, MD

Dr. Oren Tessler is board certified by both the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He’s a recognized member of various societies and organizations in the medical industry, including the Plastic Surgery Research Council, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, and the Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons. Dr. Tessler earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from McGill University, one of Canada’s best ranked schools. He was one among five students who completed McGill’s prestigious 5-year merged MD-MBA program. At the time, this program was the only one of its type in the country. It was structured to create leaders in healthcare. Dr. Tessler earned numerous scholarships and grants while in medical school. After medical school, Dr. Tessler joined the McGill University Integrated Plastic Surgery residency program. It’s during this time that he published multiple peer-reviewed journals and exposed his clinical work at the national and international level. Dr. Tessler was a co-founder of the AirMouse, a product that reduces pain in patients whose wrists had repetitive stress injuries. He won numerous business awards and was featured in major publications across North America for this accomplishment. Dr. Oren Tessler continued his medical training at Harvard University, where he took courses in Reconstructive and Aesthetic Breast Surgery. He was a member of the surgical team that was credited with performing the first full hand transplant at the Massachusetts General Hospital. Oren Tessler also helped publish and publicize new surgical methods for Migraine patients. He started his practice while he was an Assistant Professor of Clinical Surgery at the Louisiana State University and Tulane University in New Orleans. He also served as the Associated Program Director as well as Director of Plastic Surgery at the New Orleans University Medical Center. In his academic and professional pursuits, Dr. Tessler has received numerous initiator-investigated grants, and presented in more than 35 meetings at the national and international level. He has also published at least 25 high impact research papers, and repeatedly served as an international visiting professor. He is currently the Editor at the Journal for Reconstructive Microsurgery, and Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery – the top plastic surgical publication worldwide. Additionally, Oren Tessler has been a perennial judge and moderator for the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) yearly convention, and is a current member of the ASPS meeting program committee. Over the years, he has partnered and collaborated with some of the leading innovators in prosthetic and microsurgical breast reconstruction. In 2016, he was nominated among the top ten national experts in the ASPS’ National Autologous Breast Reconstruction Performance Measures Workgroup. His research work and publications on aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery have been among the most cited in the space. Thanks to his expansive experience, Dr. Oren Tessler has been retained as a consulting expert by leading innovative technology firms that are working on the next generation of surgical methods/technologies to enhance the outcomes of breast reconstruction. Dr. Oren Tessler continues to work closely with leading pioneers in migraine surgery treatment. This new surgical approach has helped provide long-time migraine patients with medication-free and often lasting results. His specialty in this area includes an upper eyelid lift incision that has aesthetic benefits. Upon publication, this technique attracted national interest and put Dr. Oren Tessler on the spotlight. It’s this prominence that has allowed him to set up the largest regional migraine surgery center at the LSU. Dr. Tessler’s clinical work and accomplishments have been discussed during national meetings, and covered in top peer-reviewed journals.
