About Mike Papastamatis, DMD
Growing up in Macomb, Michigan, with a father who worked at a General Motors assembly plant and a mother who taught children at a nursery school, Dr. Mike Papastamatis was raised with an appreciation for both hard work and education. From a young age Dr. Papastamatis wanted to be a doctor. His foremost hobby of conducting science experiments and volunteer work, directed his focus toward dentistry, a profession that combined hand skills and helping people. While in high school, Dr. Papastamatis worked as a dental assistant for two years. This is where he fell in love with the profession. Dr. Papastamatis spent 4 years studying Biology at the University of Detroit Mercy. At UDM, he was granted the Insignis Scholarship awarded to the top incoming students. Dr. Papastamatis graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Realizing his dream to be a dentist, Dr. Papastamatis then moved out to Boston, Massachusetts to attend dental school at the Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine. While in Boston, his years of tinkering and volunteering came into use as a student. Combining his appreciation for the beauty of natural and healthy teeth, plus his borderline obsessive attention to detail, cosmetic dentistry was a perfect match. Family is very important to Dr. Papastamatis. While in Boston, he married his high school sweetheart, Irene. After graduation, he came back to Michigan to practice and be closer to home. “Dr. Mike”, as most his patients call him, has been blessed with three young daughters, Helena, Stella and Georgina. He enjoys spending time participating in activities around his family and outdoors riding the trails. Dr. Papastamatis is the owner of the practice. Some offices do not make it known that they are actually owned by large corporations. These types of practices, you may realize, have a lot of staff turnover. This is due in part to the fact that the practices are driven by production rather than by the individual patient’s needs. At Rochester Dental Aesthetics, we are a privately-owned practice that will never have corporate policies or treat patients as numbers. Dr. Mike’s practice philosophy is simple, treat others as you would want them to treat you. Dr. Papastamatis takes pride in using the best materials, laboratories, and specialists. Many offices try to control costs by cutting corners by using substandard materials. Dr. Papastamatis is a member of the American Dental Association, Michigan Dental Association, Oakland Dental Society and Macomb Dental Society. Dr. Mike has also served in the past as a Board member on the Executive Committee of the Macomb Dental Society and represented the Macomb District as its representative for the Michigan Dental Association’s New Dentist Committee. Dr. Mike has a passion for progressing the profession of dentistry to better serve the patients’ needs.
