She practiced in Ukraine for several years before immigrating to the United States in 1989, where she later completed an internship in internal medicine at Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center in Brooklyn. Dr. Metelitsin continued her medical training and completed her residency at Bergen Regional Medical Center in Paramus, New Jersey.
