About Kelly L. Abate, MD

Dr. Kelly Abate is a board certified dermatologist who has been in private practice since 1997. She graduated from Northwestern University in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science in Communication Studies, minor in Biochemistry. After a year in management consulting at Baxter Healthcare Corporation, she matriculated at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, where she was president of her class in 1992 and 1993. At the University of Illinois, Dr. Abate participated in research in basic physiology and neuroscience, publishing and presenting abstracts on the effects of nicotine on respiration and duration of anesthesia. In addition to receiving awards for leadership, she was also recognized for her writing interests and won several awards for personal and scientific writing accomplishments. After graduating from the University of Illinois College of Medicine, Dr. Abate completed an internship in Internal Medicine at Northwestern University in Chicago. In 1997, she completed her Dermatology residency at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago where she functioned as Chief Resident in 1996-1997. Dr Abate has been in private practice since her graduation from Rush in 1997. Initially in Wheaton Illinois for seven years, Dr. Abate has been affiliated with Dr. Julie Moore in Elmhurst Illinois since June of 2003. In her practice, Dr. Abate sees patients of all ages and enjoys long-term relationships with many of her patients. Her emphasis is on general medical dermatology, but she also practices moderate cosmetic and surgical dermatology, including laser surgery for blood vessels, Botox and dermal filling agents, chemical peels, sclerotherapy, mole removal and minor skin cancer surgery. Common conditions for which patients seek treatment from Dr. Abate include, among others: acne, rosacea, warts, psoriasis, eczema, disorders of hair and nails, mole evaluation/screening, skin cancer, and skin rejuvenation. At Moore Dermatology, Dr. Abate applies varied laser technologies to treat red blood vessels and brown discoloration (sun spots), textural changes (fine lines and enlarged pores, sun damage) and hair removal. Dr. Abate lives in the western suburbs of Chicago with her husband and three children. Her interests include cooking, writing, yoga, and reading.
