About Johnny Zhao, MD
Johnny Zhao, MD is a medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatologist. A native Austinite, Dr. Zhao grew up minutes away from the original Westlake Dermatology location on Bee Caves Road. He graduated from Westlake High School as the salutatorian, summa cum laude. He then attended Duke University and graduated cum laude with a degree in chemistry. Thereafter, he moved to the Midwest and attended Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, where he was a recipient of the Distinguished Max Rukes Student Scholarship. He achieved selection into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society and graduated at the top of his medical school class. Following a year of medical internship in the California Bay Area, he returned to Texas and completed his dermatology residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. In his final year of residency, he was chosen by the faculty to serve as administrative Chief Resident. Dr. Zhao is passionate about treating the full range of skin conditions, from acne to psoriasis to eczema. He received in-depth training with the newest biologic medications, which are changing the way many skin conditions are treated. He is also experienced in the treatment of skin cancers and in the use of neurotoxins. Outside of medicine, Dr. Zhao enjoys competing in soccer leagues and sampling the city’s latest cuisines. He is an avid Duke Blue Devil and Manchester United fan.
