About Jim M. Fisher, DMD

I enjoy supporting patients who visit me feeling helpless about their dental health, and working with them to turn their dental health around. I feel a sense of accomplishment for allowing them to not only have a healthy, functional mouth, but to have scored a victory over something that, for many, was a problem that seemed insurmountable. There are many aspects I enjoy about my profession. I take pleasure in making our younger patients get off to a positive start in their dental experiences. I want all my patients, including seniors with their special needs, to feel my team and I have helped them, not merely processed them through our office. Dentistry has so many ways to have a positive impact in people’s lives. Helping someone overcome a fear of dental treatment, or helping another improve their appearance to resolve a lifetime of shame and embarrassment due to their appearance, are both aspects I enjoy greatly and take a lot of pride in. I enjoy doing something only a few are trained to do; it’s a very special sense of accomplishment to provide quality dental care. I enjoyed growing in Poway, CA, and earned my undergraduate degree from the University of Southern California before earning my Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from Washington University School of Dental Medicine in St. Louis, MO. Pursuing continuing education from post-graduate programs all over the country enhances my knowledge and expertise in advanced restorative and cosmetic dentistry. I take advantage of numerous education opportunities, and attend educational programs through specialized study clubs and other providers. Though many hours of continuous education are required to be taken by each dentist, I typically take double that amount. I choose to take these courses knowing I always come away with an improvement in my knowledge or skill set, which I can pass along to my patients. I am a proud member of the American Dental Association, California Dental Association, and the San Diego County Dental Society. I reside in Hidden Meadows with my wife, Gail, whom many of you know as the designer of the beautiful quilts which decorate our office. Gail and I have two married sons, as well as a soon-to-be-married daughter. Our family also includes our dog, Loki. My favorite leisure activity is surfing. Having done it since I was in my teens, I always look forward to the next trip to the beach. Home projects and gardening are also nice diversions from the precise and detailed work of dentistry. Avocados, oranges, tangerines, pincushion proteas, raspberries, and lots of other treats are some of the fun results of growing things in my yard. I also try to squeeze in some tennis and guitar when I can, and enjoy being an active member in our church. I enjoy giving back to my community, and do so by participating in the Faith in Action program at my church, in which members go out into various neighborhoods and provide much-needed help with many different projects. It’s amazing what can be accomplished, and always exciting to see the joy on the faces of those who just received unexpected help. Providing pro bono dental care for someone who has no way of obtaining needed care is one of the most rewarding benefits I receive from my profession.
