About Jennifer M. Rullan, MD

Dr. Jennifer Rullan, daughter of Dr. Peter Rullan, is a Board Certified Dermatologist. She was born in Anaheim, California and raised in San Diego where she attended Bonita Vista High School. She earned her B.S. in Psychobiology from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and her M.D. from the Ponce School of Medicine (fully-accredited by the ACGME). She completed her internship in Internal Medicine at the San Juan Veterans Hospital and her residency in dermatology at the University of Puerto Rico (fully-accredited by the ACGME). Dr. Rullan is a recipient of numerous honors and awards. She graduated medical school with both academic and clinical honors. She was one of the select few in her class elected in 2008 to be a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, a national honor society for medical students, residents, scientists and physicians, which recognizes professionalism, academic excellence, service, and leadership. She is a lifetime member of the society and fully embraces its mission to improve care for all patients, reflected in its motto, “Be Worthy to Serve the Suffering.” Dr. Rullan strongly believes in giving back to the community and has dedicated a good portion of her free time in doing so. She was an organic chemistry tutor at the Academic Advancement Program at UCLA and a pharmacology tutor at the Ponce School of Medicine. She also served as a site coordinator for the COPE program at a battered women’s home. Dr. Rullan is a founding sister for the delta chapter of Phi Lambda Rho Inc., one of the largest Hispanic sororities at UCLA, with principles based upon academic excellence, community service, and the promotion of Latina culture. While in medical school, she founded and directed the REMEDY Program, a program that recovered unused medical equipment for the developing world, specifically Haiti and Dominican Republic. She volunteered at Camp Discovery, a summer camp sponsored by the American Academy of Dermatology, helping children with disabling skin diseases such as Epidermolysis Bullosa. She has been on several medical mission trips locally, to Peru, and to Brazil. She has both organized and participated in several skin cancer screenings, volunteered in clinics to serve the homeless, and served as a mentor to multiple students. Her research has been published in The Journal of Drugs in Dermatology, Cutis, The American Journal of Cosmetic Surgery, and The Caribbean Journal of Dermatology. She also contributed to the research article “Two Day Phenol Chemabrasion for Acne Scars and Deep Wrinkles”. The article was named “Most Scholarly Article of 2004” by the Trustees of the 2005 American Board of Cosmetic Surgery. She authored two chapters on pulmonary and rheumatic diseases in the Lippincott’s book Atlas of Dermatology in Internal Medicine. Dr. Rullan has attended and presented at multiple conferences and meetings across the nation and in Puerto Rico.
