About Jason P. Dupont, MD

Jason DuPont, MD, is a board-certified dermatologist, fellowship trained Mohs surgeon and assistant clinical professor in the University of Arizona Division of Dermatology at the UA Department of Medicine. He splits his time between the UA Cancer Center and the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System in Tucson, and is actively involved in teaching medical students and residents at both venues. Additionally, he performs Mohs surgery in private practice with Associated Dermatologists PC, in Tucson and Green Valley, Ariz. Mohs surgery is a sub-speciality within the field of dermatology in which the physician acts in the joint capacity of both surgeon and pathologist. It was developed as a means of treating skin cancer in the late 1930s by Frederic Mohs, MD, at the University of Wisconsin. Although this microscopic technique has evolved significantly over the years, the fundamental principal remains the same: achieve the highest possible cure rate while minimizing the extent of surrounding normal skin removed with the cancer. Mohs surgery is generally reserved for areas of functional and aesthetic importance, such as the face—although large, recurrent, or complex tumors occurring on the body also may be excised by this method. Dr. DuPont's scope of work is focused primarily on Mohs surgery, and he performs approximately 1,500 cases per year between his multiple practice sites. Fellowship trained at the University of Arizona's Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology Fellowship Program (previously Procedural Dermatology Fellowship), Dr. DuPont joined the faculty in the UA Division of Dermatology and UA Cancer Center in 2015. He trained with two renowned experts in the field including past president of the American College of Mohs Surgery, Duane Whitaker, MD, and former director of Mohs Surgery at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in New York, Nathalie Zeitouni, MD. Dr. DuPont completed his dermatology residency at the UA College of Medicine - Tucson (2010-13) and previously did a residency in family medicine at Phoenix's Good Samaritan Hospital (2001-04)—now Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix.
