About James B. Munce, DDS
Doctor Munce was born and raised in Southern California. Upon graduation from high school he received an academic scholarship to the University of Southern California. After-three years at USC he was admitted to Washington University School of Dentistry in St. Louis, Missouri where he graduated in 1967 with an award for excellence in crown and bridge prosthetics. He passed the California State Dental Board Exam in June of 1967 and then entered the U.S. Navy for two years, one of which was spent attached to the 1st Marine Air Wing in the Republic of South Vietnam. Upon returning home he was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal by the Secretary of the Navy for ""Meritorious Service"" including ""superb professional skills and steadfast devotion to duty."" He left the Navy with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Dr.Munce entered private practice in San Diego in July of 1969 and has been at his present office location, 814 Morena Blvd., Ste.202, since January 16, 1984. He is a member in good standing of the American Dental Association, California Dental Association and the San Diego County Dental Society. He is also an Emeritus member of the Academy of General Dentistry having completed over 1000 hours of post graduate continuing education. During his 40 years of private practice he has served as president of the Paul Revere Dental Study Club, been a member of the Council on Ethics of the San Diego County Dental Society for 10 years serving as chairmen for 4 years. He has also been a member to the Council on Peer Review for 7 years serving as chairman for 2 years and is presently serving his second year as a member of the Board of Directors of the Dental Society. In addition he has had the honor of being selected as one of San Diego's top dentists by San Diego Magazine for the years 2007 to 2011. Dr.Munce and his staff use only modern materials, equipment and technologies in the office. His was one of the first offices in San Diego to have digital x-rays available to his patients and with the addition of a digital panoramic machine the office is now completely digital. All of this is done in an effort to reduce the amount of diagnostic x-ray exposure to patients. He has recently added a Diode laser to the office and Dr.Munce and his hygienists are certified in the use and treatment with the soft tissue laser.
