About Herman P. Houin, MD

A graduate of Purdue Unversity in 1979 and Indiana University School of Medicine in 1982, Dr. Houin completed his General Surgery residency training at Henry Ford Hospital in 1987 and his fellowship training in Plastic Surgery at Wayne State University School of Medicine in 1989. He joined the Henry Ford Medical Group’s Division of Plastic Surgery at the Henry Ford Health System where he has practiced since 1989. Dr. Houin is board certified by the American Board of Surgery, the American Board of Plastic Surgery, and holds a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Surgery of the Hand by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. While the precision and technical challenges of microsurgery initially led Dr. Houin to pursue a medical career in plastic surgery, it is the artistry of cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery and the ability to help his patients feel appreciative for the results that continues to make his practice professionally and personally satisfying. To treat my patients with the respect and care I want for my own family I enjoy caring for my patients and educating them about the options they have with each of their plastic surgery issues. I want to be sure my patients are comfortable with me as their surgeon and the decisions we need to make together. I want all my patients to feel like they are being treated like I would want my family treated. I especially want my patients to feel better about themselves when I am done, whether the procedure is a chemical peel for facial wrinkles, the facelift they have sought for years or the replantation of severed fingers from a traumatic hand accident.
