About Gordon H. Derman, MD

Gordon H. Derman, M.D. is the founder and director of the Chicago Center for Plastic Reconstructive and Hand Surgery. Dr. Derman is a Board Certified Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon with Added Certification in Surgery of the hand and is director of Hand Surgery for the Department of Plastic Surgery at Rush Medical College. He has published multiple peer reviewed journal articles on Hand surgery. He has also written a chapter on Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Dr. Derman is a multi-year recipient of the Top Doctor in Chicago Magazine and has been listed in the Connolly Castle Guide for Top Doctors in America. Dr. Derman is an experienced Plastic, Hand, and Microsurgeon practicing for over 30 years in the Chicago region. His advanced surgical training in Plastic Surgery as well as Hand Surgery provides the additional specialized skills necessary to perform the most delicate of surgical procedures required to treat extensive traumatic hand injuries, including: laceration of tendons and nerves, crush injuries, burns, severe tissue loss, nerve compression injuries such as carpal tunnel and cubital tunnel syndrome, and the treatment of fractures of the delicate small bones of the fingers, hands, and wrist. Dr. Derman was born and raised in Chicago and has practiced at Rush University Medical Center and NorthShore University Health Systems since completing medical school at Rush Medical College, general surgical training at Loyola University Medical Center, and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Hand Surgery at The University of Michigan Medical Center. He is very familiar with the workplace environment present in Chicago and its suburbs and understands the uniqueness of the associated diversity and ethnicity of this great city and its inhabitants.
