About Filomena M. Scola, DO
Dr. Filomena Scola is a board certified dermatologist specializing in medical dermatology with a special interest in skin cancer prevention, detection and treatment. She also concentrates on skin care and skin care safety and treatment options. She is a highly respected doctor both in the community and nationally. Dr. Filomena Scola is also an accomplished medical educator and mentor. She teaches medical students and medical residents throughout the United States. One of her joys of practicing dermatology in the community includes teaching and learning from her patients. She has cared for generations of family members in her community and feels fortunate to have the opportunity to grow with her patients and staff. Dr. Scola’s patients consistently benefit from her commitment to academic excellence and to her community contributions. Dr. Filomena Scola was born in Philadelphia, PA and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Art History (a double major) from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA, graduating with High Honors. Dr. Scola conducted research in microbiology and immunology prior to attending medical school. Her undergraduate background was the basis of Dr. Scola bringing a keen eye of the aesthetic and extensive scientific knowledge to the art and science of medicine. Dr. Scola then attended the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) where she graduated at the top of her class. She then completed a medical internship where she was named “Intern of the Year” among a class of over one hundred interns across four hospital systems. Following her medical internship, Dr. Filomena Scola became a resident in Dermatology at PCOM where she served as Chief Resident. As Chief Resident, Dr. Scola established the first meeting of the Philadelphia Dermatological Society, one of the nation’s premier local dermatology societies, to be hosted by PCOM. This led to PCOM becoming a member institution of the Society. Dr. Filomena Scola has published numerous articles in science, medical and dermatology journals and has been a speaker at local and national dermatology conferences. Dr. Scola understands that dermatology, medicine, and patient needs are constantly evolving, and she and her staff are committed to responding to those needs. She is a member and fellow of many regional and national dermatology organizations including the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology, the American Osteopathic Association, the Atlantic Dermatology Conference and the Philadelphia Dermatological Society. Dr. Filomena Scola has been proudly serving the Montgomery County community for over 20 years and has been named Top Doctor in Dermatology by newspapers, magazines, patient surveys and media outlets. Dr. Scola remains enthusiastic about teaching other doctors and patients the art and science of dermatology.
