About Douglas P. Marx, MD

Douglas P. Marx, MD, is a doctor of ophthalmology with a practice at the John A. Moran Eye Center at the University of Utah. Dr. Marx is the division chief of oculoplastic and reconstructive surgery and has extensive experience in pediatric and adult oculoplastics related to cancer and other eye socket and eyelid abnormalities. He has a particular interest in orbital tumors, eyelid and orbital reconstruction, and congenital defects. Marx practices at the John A. Moran Eye Center, Primary Children’s Hospital, and the Redwood and South Jordan Health Centers. A Utah native, Marx was formerly an assistant professor at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and practiced at Baylor Eye Physicians & Surgeons and Texas Children’s Hospital. He joined the University of Utah Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences as an associate professor. As a researcher, Marx has studied congenital ptosis, orbital diseases, thyroid eye disease, orbital inflammation, orbital reconstruction, and orbital neoplasms. He has published over 30 peer-reviewed journal articles, most recently on the topic of pediatric orbital lymphoma, congenital droopy eyelids, orbital reconstruction, and eyelid reconstruction. After graduating from Brigham Young University, Marx earned his medical degree from the Georgetown where he graduated with honors. He completed a two-year ASOPRS-approved fellowship in oculofacial plastic and reconstructive surgery at the Oregon Health and Sciences Casey Eye Institute. Also, Marx is a recipient of the Stephen N. Schindler Award for high ethical and humane standards and was inducted into the medical honor society Alpha Omega Alpha.
