About Deepa Alahari, DDS
Even though no one else in her family had pursued a career in Dentistry, as a young girl growing up in South India, Dr. Deepa Alahari just KNEW this was destined to be her path. She still has fond – and vivid – memories of accompanying her father on visits to the Dentist, where she would take in every detail, ask questions, and was hooked for life! Throughout school, this became her single-minded focus and Dr. Alahari excelled…especially in her pursuit of Dental research and innovation. Although both natives of India, she and her husband Durga, a software engineer, eventually made their way to the land of beaches and sunshine in Orlando, Florida thanks to a job offer. While in Orlando, she studied for and passed her Dental board exams and even resumed her research work in microbiology at the University of Florida Orlando campus – where her undergraduate degree served her well! The next step took them FAR from those “magical” beaches, to the frozen north of the University of Detroit – Mercy School of Dentistry – where she was quickly accepted – to resume her studies toward becoming a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS). After completing her U.S. degree, Dr. Alahari found many opportunities in Texas and could finally begin pursuing her passion for helping people. And while Dentistry remains a major part of her life, Dr. Alahari can also be found enjoying quality time with her family – which now includes two children: Sai, 10, her daughter, and a son, Sayin, aged 8. Apparently, creativity runs in the family as Sai avidly hones her skills in dancing and singing, taking after her mother who takes pride in her cooking and creating original recipes for her family. And, Sayin keeps his mom busy as a burgeoning basketball player. However, despite all the evidence, Dr. Alahari is NOT your typical “homebody” since travel is another of her interests! Having extensively explored the exotic subcontinent of India, she has also taken a number of cruises throughout the Caribbean, visited Dubai and even traveled to our neighbor to the north, Canada. Yet, despite her busy life, Dr. Alahari continues her quest to take Dentistry to the next level and to share the joy only a happy, healthy smile can bring, with others!
