About David E. Sawcer

David Sawcer, M.D. Ph.D. is an assistant professor of clinical dermatology in the Keck School of Medicine at USC, and director of clinical and translational research. Educated in England, he received his medical degree from the University of Birmingham and completed his internal medicine training at Oxford University. Later he undertook specialty training in dermatology with a residency at the prestigious St John's Institute of Dermatology in London. Prior to his M.D., Sawcer completed Ph.D. research in physics at the University of Southern California, specializing in lasers. Teaching is paramount in Dr Sawcer's contribution to the Keck School of Medicine at USC. He lectures medical students and residents to train the next generation of doctors and dermatologists. As the director of clinical and translational research he has a number of research interests, but is focused primarily on skin cancer and its treatment. Upon joining USC in 2001, he applied his broad training to caring for many of the faculty, staff, and students of USC. With his multidisciplinary skills he rapidly developed a reputation as a caring physician with a friendly, rational, and realistic approach. He has developed an extensive skin cancer-screening program, and sees patients in the USC private practice setting while continuing to participate in the care of the uninsured at the LAC+USC Medical Center. In caring for patients, Sawcer emphasizes patient education and combines the latest scientific advances with proactive interventions to provide skin care and skin cancer treatments that are holistic and highly effective. Sawcer is board certified in internal medicine and dermatology, with special clinical interest in skin cancer treatment and prevention, general and cosmetic dermatology, and laser therapies.
