About Daniel J. Freet, MD
Iowa native Dr. Daniel Freet earned both his undergraduate degree in anthropology and his medical degree at the University of Iowa. He completed his residency in general surgery and a fellowship in plastic surgery at McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth). Dr. Freet, who has been in practice since 1995, is board certified in plastic surgery. His primary clinical interests are facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. Dr. Freet also leads a multidisciplinary team that performs both male-to-female and female-to-male transgender surgery, including facial and chest surgeries, as well as vaginoplasty, metoidioplasty and phalloplasty. His patients say he shows a great deal of concern for their peace of mind and well-being and describe him as extremely thorough in explaining processes and ensuring fully informed consent. Dr. Freet, an assistant professor of reconstructive and plastic surgery at McGovern Medical School, is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a member of the Society for Surgical Education, American Society of Plastic Surgery, World Professional Association of Transgender Health, Texas Society of Plastic Surgery and Harris County Medical Association. After growing up on a farm in Iowa, Dr. Freet now enjoys fostering homeless dogs who join his own furry family members from time to time.
