About Chung-Yin Chan, MD

I was born in Texas and did nearly all of my undergraduate and medical training in Houston, home to the largest medical center in the world. Having lived in Texas for the first 30 years of my life, I like to think that all that time yielded a good bit of southern hospitality and friendliness! I spent my final year of training in Boston to complete a fellowship in Mohs micrographic surgery with an emphasis on cosmetics. During the course of my training, I became particularly interested in skin cancer and look forward to providing care using the most advanced techniques available. I constantly try to stay current with the latest advances in our field and have published numerous articles in dermatology, authored book chapters on both lasers and botulinum toxin, and spoken at national conferences. My wife and I sought a move to the West Coast to enjoy the beautiful, warm weather and wonderful lifestyle, so I was excited to settle into a role at Kaiser Permanente. I have been extremely happy working within an integrated healthcare system that allows me and my team to focus on the patient and provide the best care possible.I often try to get to work early so that I can settle in and take care of some of my administrative duties. I also like to have my cup of coffee as I ease into the workday because, once I get started, it usually stays busy for the entire day. I spend most of my time performing Mohs surgery and perform some general dermatology. I also enjoy teaching dermatology residents from UC Davis that rotate through the department. When I get a free moment, I try to stay up-to-date on advances in our field by reading the latest medical journals.
