About Christopher M. Barnard, MD
Dr. Barnard founded the telemedicine programs at both Stanford and the Palo Alto VA in 1995 and wrote the software program Skindex to teach differential diagnosis in dermatology and dermatopathology. He served as president of the San Francisco Dermatological Society in 2000 and was on the board of the California Society of Dermatology for many years in addition to several leadership roles in state and national dermatology societies. Dr. Barnard became a clinical investigator for Lucid, the leading developer of confocal microscopy for the non-invasive diagnosis of melanoma and melanocytic lesions. He continued to build telemedicine programs on the Central Coastal and Central Valley areas of California and combine medical informatics with biomedical engineering device development while maintaining his private practice in Carmel and teaching residents at Stanford. As an early pioneer in treating venous disease using minimally invasive techniques, Dr. Barnard rose to the level of national recognition as a leading practitioner in the field of phlebology, which he plans to continue in his new position with Torrey Pines Dermatology in La Jolla, California starting in July, 2020.
