About Charles S. Hultman, MD

C. Scott Hultman, M.D., MBA, FACS, has joined the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery as the new director of the Johns Hopkins Burn Center. Dr. Hultman’s specialties include burn treatment and reconstruction, microsurgical reconstruction, aesthetic surgery and surgery of the hand. As the Burn Center director, he will oversee the clinical operations of the adult burn unit at Johns Hopkins Bayview and develop a burn reconstruction program for adults and children. He will also serve as the vice chair of strategic development for the department. Dr. Hultman joins us from the University of North Carolina Hospitals where served as the chief emeritus of the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the Ethel and James Valone distinguished professor of surgery, and founder/director of the Aesthetic, Laser, and Burn Reconstruction Center, an office-based surgery facility. Dr. Hultman is the former chair of the Graduate Medical Education Committee at UNC, and established their six-year, integrated residency program in plastic surgery. He is also the vice president of academic affairs and reconstructive surgery for the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the Plastic Surgery Foundation, and a member of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education Residency Review Committee for Plastic Surgery. Dr. Hultman graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, and then completed his residency in general surgery, a fellowship in surgical critical care, and a basic science fellowship in burn immunology at the University of North Carolina. Subsequently, he completed a residency in plastic surgery at Emory University, and returned to the University of North Carolina as a member of the faculty and leader of the burn program there. In 2008, he received a master of business administration degree from the University of North Carolina.
