About Aviva Mapgaonkar, DMD
Dr. Aviva as her patients refer to her, has had extensive training in a broad range of restorative and cosmetic dentistry. Our most important goal in practicing dentistry is to have patients who are no longer afraid of going to the dentist, interested in their oral health, and well-educated so that they can take an active part in keeping their teeth healthy A graduate of the School of Dental Medicine at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas; Dr. Aviva spent many of her weekends while she was in school, working as a volunteer dentist at the Sgt. Clint Ferrin Memorial Veteran's Clinic in Las Vegas. “I enjoyed working at the Ferrin Clinic because I believe that it is important to give back to the community. I felt honored to be able to help veterans who in many cases have put their lives on the line for the rest of us.” She also spent many weekends volunteering at the UNLV-sponsored Women's Clinic. “It was inspiring working at the Women's Clinic. We worked with patients who were not able to afford dental care. We would treat patients with infections and we were able to give them good smiles so that they could eat food again and not be in pain. One of the things that was very valuable to me about my time at UNLV was that, as students, we had the opportunity to work with a lot more oral surgery emergencies than students at other dental schools. This was because UNLV did not offer an Oral Surgery Specialty. We had to handle these oral surgery cases. As a result, I was able to get a lot of very valuable hands-on experience, which other dental students would have had to have participated in an oral surgery residency to receive. Dr. Aviva and her husband David have two beautiful children, Daniella and Alexander, who she says “are the center of my world.” She enjoys spending time with her family and taking family trips and vacations. Family is very important to me and it will always come first. Family for me does not just mean my husband, children and parents. For me it also includes my staff and my patients. Dr. Aviva is a member of the California Dental Association, the American Dental Association and the Santa Clara County Dental Society.
