About Anna Nichols, MD
Anna Nichols, MD, PhD is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. As a resident in dermatology at the University of Miami, Dr. Nichols was the first trainee in any specialty to ever be appointed to the Institutional Review Board (IRB) as a full committee member, a position she still maintains as faculty. In her first year as faculty, she was named the Director of the Dermatology Clinical and Translational Research Unit where she oversees a team of research coordinators and full-time research fellows who support the department’s numerous research projects. Dr. Nichols created and directs the first ever High-Risk Skin Cancer Clinic at the University of Miami’s Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. This clinic is dedicated to serving patients at risk for multiple or aggressive nonmelanoma skin cancers, such as solid organ transplant recipients. Aside from directing the clinical trials unit and the High Risk Skin Cancer Clinic, Dr. Nichols is very active in several promising and potentially groundbreaking research projects including preliminary work on the viral pathogenesis of squamous cell carcinoma. She regularly serves as the attending physician for an inpatient service where patients are treated for severe skin diseases.
