For men and women who desire a fuller, more defined buttocks, a butt implant can offer instant, natural looking results. While the Brazilian butt lift, touted as a “natural” form of augmentation since it uses the patients own fat, has become an increasingly popular method to enhance the buttocks, implants are a great alternative for those who do not have enough fat for grafting or desire a permanent solution for a smaller backside. 

Like breast augmentation, there are a number of locations where the implants can be inserted from depending on several factors. There are 4 different incision and insertion methods that may be made during surgery: incisions at the top of each buttocks, incisions underneath the gluteal crease where the cheek meets the thigh, multiple incisions made between both cheeks, or one incision placed down the center of the butt, hidden in the butt crease. 

Once the incision has been made, a customized silicone implant is inserted either within the gluteal muscle or above the gluteal muscle. The method for inserting and positioning implants depends on the type of implant, degree of enlargement desired, patient body type, and surgeon's recommendations. Incisions will be closed with a combination of sutures, skin adhesive, and surgical tape. Results are permanent and noticeable immediately but will improve over time as swelling fades.

- Stop taking any blooding thinning medications for 2 weeks if possible
- Stop smoking 4 weeks before and after surgery
- Herbal medications and diet pills should be stopped
- Purchase all recovery items in advance, including stool softeners
- Do not take diabetic medication on the morning of surgery
- No eating or drinking 8 hours before surgery or as directed

Before Treatment

During Treatment: Incision Location

During Treatment Continued

Immediately After Treatment

- Do not sit or sleep on implants for 2 weeks
- Limit physical activity for 1 week
- Gradually resume normal activity after 2 weeks
- Return to work after 2 weeks 

1-2 Weeks After Treatment

- Do not submerge incisions for 3 weeks
- No lower body exercises for 8 weeks
- Full recovery can take up to 8 months

3 Weeks After Treatment and Beyond

- Results affected by significant weight gain or loss
